Give Yourself Permission

American Heritage Dictionary defines permission as the act of permitting in giving formal consent or authorization to do something.

Merriam Webster Dictionary defines it as the approval by someone in authority for the doing of something.

We are constantly seeking permission from others throughout our life…teachers, managers, supervisors, coworkers, family members, colleagues, medical personnel, friends. Many of us learned to do this at a very young age.

It is a sign of respect, reverence, esteem.

My grandmother was born in England and came over to Canada when she was 18.  She then migrated to the US and became a citizen in her 30s.  By the time I was born she had been a US citizen well over 35 years.  But she still carried her stoic English traits.

I had to ask permission for everything and most of the time she said yes LOL.  I respected and loved my grandma so asking for a cookie, piece of candy, staying up another half hour was just something I did because she was Grandma with that funny accent and if I wanted something I knew I had to ask for it.  I would never dare think of going into her cookie jar without asking!  And she would never say yes to something that was not good for me because she loved me that much.

Think of yourself as the most well loved and respected grandma or grandpa (even if in your twenties).  Someone you adore and appreciate immensely.  Someone who watches out for you and loves you unconditionally.  Someone who wants only the best life has to offer for you.

We are the grandma/grandpa over our lives.  We can give ourselves permission to do those things that are good for us.  To try something new, take that class, attend that seminar, make that call, send that letter, schedule that appointment, call that life coach…you get it.

So, say Yes to yourself.  Give yourself permission.  Be empowered to move forward in your life.  You have earned it.

Rise…Dare to Soar!

 Let’s chat!
