Just. Get. Up.

Have you ever had a day where you just can’t seem to get up off the couch?  Where you know you need to but you just can’t?  There’s a heaviness that isn’t welcome.  Something or someone is keeping you there forbidding you the strength and courage to move.

You know you need to get up and do something…but…can’t do it.

I have.

And. It’s ok.

Life can come upon us as an unexpected wind shear locking us in place unable to move for fear we will blow away.  For some of us it’s a problem at work that we just can’t seem to leave at work, a breakup or potential breakup we know is coming.   It can be loneliness, loss of a loved one, a challenging child or simply just a tough day.

We all have them.  It’s normal.  Where things get unhelpful is when we continue to feel this way…we get stuck.  Unable to move.

A wind shear is a sudden change of wind speed or direction causing instability in the atmosphere.  It comes out of nowhere.  Ever feel like that?  I have.  Sometimes we can’t even put our finger on what is causing our stuckness.  It’s just there.

What if when feeling this way, you…just get up.  Sounds easy right?  For those of us who have been there we know it’s not. But hear me out.

Try it.  Just get up.  Take a few steps, see where it leads.  Maybe you’ll grab that book off the shelf you’ve been meaning to start.  Just reading the back of the book is a start.  Perhaps you might get up and light your favorite candle.  Throw the comforter over the bed (not saying you have to fully make the bed).  Sort some clothes not necessarily do the laundry.  Go to the mailbox and check the mail (even if it’s Sunday LOL).  You get the idea.

Start small.  Really small.  Really really small.  Then thank yourself for getting up.

Sometimes the smallest pebbles are the stepping stones to something bigger.

I like the word Rise (defined as getting up from lying or sitting).  It sparks the idea of a gradual movement upward.

Then the word Soar. Visualize releasing yourself from your stuck state choosing to soar just a bit higher than where you were.

You can do it!  I know because I’ve had to do it myself many times.

So, I encourage you as a friend and somebody who’s been there.

Rise…Dare to Soar.

Let’s Talk!
